James Harper: My mindset was shaped at an early age, I believe. I’ve always had a rebellious personality and had a hard time in school. Although that was challenging growing up, I believe it’s played to my advantage in entrepreneurship. I’m okay with bending the rules and playing the game on your terms, which is needed in business. Through the years though, I’ve learned to do this with love and grace, which has transformed from more of a rebellious kid to a more certain decision maker.
James Harper: I serve, don’t sell. It sounds contradicting, but it’s key. You truly have to put yourself in the prospect’s shoes – how you’re reaching out to them, the messaging, the method and approach, all of it. If you view the process from the prospect’s perspective, you will see more consistent results. Also, understand that consistency wins.
“Sales is hard. Outbound sales is the hardest. Learn to love the process, the rejections and the grind. You will win big if you stay consistent with good sales principles.” James Harper, CEO, PowerPlacing
James Harper: U.S. Companies must undergo a massive mindset shift when outsourcing talent overseas for remote work. You need to view your virtual talent as a faithful team member. Companies need to stop viewing them as ‘task does’ and true talent and problem solvers. U.S. companies need to understand that there’s true talent overseas, and although the wage difference might be lower, they are skilled professionals, NOT cheap labor.
James Harper: Put people in place that possesses leadership qualities in all three of these areas. Let them align and build it for you based on your vision. As Founders, we have to realize that we can’t do it all, and frankly speaking, we shouldn’t. Hire great people, with experience and skills in these areas, and then form them into a badass team that aligns all these departments.
James Harper: They hire too quickly and don’t qualify for the hire. They also often look for the ‘cheapest’ option, which doesn’t serve you. Frequently, you can make the right hire, but you will not see the result from the hire, not because of them, but because of YOU.
There is a major lack of remote employee onboarding, customer support, and ongoing training once they get hired. This is the major gap in the remote workforce. Double down on training your virtual team and keeping them engaged.
James harper: These core principles are considered in every big decision I make. It’s important to note, though, that although we all have personal core values, we must have company/team core values that align us. Once you have those in place as a company, you then have to coach your staff through their personal values.
“I believe in freedom of country, belief and choice. Family is the core of fellowship when it’s all said and done and legacy is what you leave once you’re no longer here. It’s important for me to remind myself of these core values in business to ensure I’m staying true to myself.” – James Harper, CEO, PowerPlacing
